About Singapore
The Republic of Singapore is an island nation at the southern tip of the Malay Peninsula in South-East Asia. Its population of nearly five and a half million form a diverse cross-section of cultures, with Chinese, Malay and Indian cultures representing the major groups. This brings plenty of diversity to Singapore, in terms of language, religion, heritage, and of course, our national obsession, food. A former British colony, English is the language of education, business and government, and many public areas have additional signs in Mandarin, Malay and Tamil. Although only 728 square kilometers in area and highly urbanized, Singapore has several relatively large nature reserves and other pockets of wildlife, and takes pride in infusing greenery throughout our 'City in Nature'. Visa and Entry Requirements
A visa may be required for visitors from some countries. Details are available from the Singapore Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA). The list of countries, entry requirements and application procedures can be found here.
If you require a Letter of Introduction (LOI) for visa entry requirements, contact the Secretariat. You are advised to register early to allow time for processing.
Women in an advanced state of pregnancy (six months or more) who intend to visit Singapore should make a prior application with the nearest Singapore overseas mission.

Other Notes
Singapore is located near the equator. Average daily temperatures range between 25–32°C in June, and the climate is generally humid. There may be occasional light to heavy rainfall during the day. Indoor venues are air-conditioned. Some may occasionally feel the need for a light cardigan or jacket, especially when indoors for long periods.
Singapore has a smoking ban in public places. NTU and NIE are also designated as smoke-free campuses. Smoking is prohibited within the campus.
